LOGLINE: The death of a girl triggers a vigilante to seek revenge as detectives Logan Ford and Malik Edwards follow the grizzly trail in eighties New York.

Set in New York City in 1989, time-served, loner detective Logan Ford is forced to work with protege rookie Malik Edwards, despite his protestations. Seeing his new partner as a jumped-up, college boy who is being fast-tracked, their partnership is strained from the outset as their differences are apparent.

Malik, being gay and black, is filled with caution in working with a detective who appears set in the old ways and disgruntled with his stalled career.

Their personal challenges are soon put to the test when the body of Lucia Blinkley is discovered at a disused industrial site and are required to investigate the cause of death which is soon established as being related to the use of a new drug called Rising Star and reported as accidental death.

But before they can draw their conclusions, three murders occur in quick succession with the death of corrupt police officer Bernie Hillcroft, councillor Fred Wilmot and Italian gangland boss Giancomo Pulcinella.

Each murder is staged for the victims to appear like marionettes, as their bodies are strung up with messages and symbols adorning their bodies in acts of gruesome violence.

Believing that they are the work of a serial killer who was never captured, the duo pursue each line of inquiry, knowing that they are slowly, but frustratingly, closing in on the perpetrator.

Their journey is one of discovery, about each other as much as who the killer could be as the rising career of Malik takes its first steps.
